Our final Ready Room appreciation post for the week concerns Notifications. In Ready Room, we have two types of notifications:

  • Email alerts that tell you when you've been mentioned in a comment or chat or when a request has been assigned to you.
  • On-screen notifications for the same cases that appear in a Notifications panel and can be manually checked to track them or deleted.

When our customers started asking for these notifications, I was concerned that they would clog up email or go unheeded on-screen.  In the last mock inspection, however, I found myself dependent upon them. As part of a small team, I found myself both fulfilling requests and helping to manage the back room. As a back room manager I was constantly scanning the board...but as a fulfiller I was frequently looking away to locate TMF documents or writing responses to inspection questions, which led me to miss some comments and questions.

The email alerts and notifications were helpful grounding tools in this environment. I was grateful for the ability to check the Notifications tab periodically to see what I missed. And on the rare occasions when I was able to take a brief stroll to step outside or grab coffee, it was helpful to see email alerts popping up on my smart watch.

As the inspection board gets busier, little features can have a huge impact on productivity.
